Yoga is so much more than fancy poses that you might see packaged and advertised to us in the West. Yoga is a philosophy, a way of being, filled with ancient wisdom. The physical practice of it (Asana) incorporates teachings adding the elements of our being that most other physical practices don’t, the integration of mind, body, and spirit helping us become more attuned to the energy we carry and pick up in the world. It helps us form a deep relationship with our internal sensory system.

There have been many studies by Bessel Van Der Kolk, that recognize the power of this practice to help heal trauma, as trauma resides in the body - stating that it is more powerful in healing PTSD than any of the drugs that were studied. It helps with focus, connection, balance, stress reduction, and many more benefits. The philosophies are well aligned with recovery principles, which I have found to be very impactful in my journey.
